Indian Head Massage

What is Indian Head Massage?
Head massage is a touch therapy that concentrates on the areas of the shoulders, neck, scalp and face. The treatment takes around 30 minutes and the client remains clothed whilst the treatment is performed. Oils may be used on the scalp if the client requests this, but it is the massage itself that stimulates the flow of blood to the follicles, improving the supply of nutrients needed, easing tension and restoring flexibility.

How can it benefit us?
Poor posture can throw our head out of alignment. This results in neck muscles tensing up in order to take the full weight of the head. They can then become permanently contracted, causing congestion, tightness and reduced neck mobility. The result is often headache, migraine or eyestrain.

Similarly, when we concentrate we instinctively frown, and this causes our foreheads and temples to become tight and congested. Frowning can lead to permanent lines and wrinkles, and if the muscles around the temples become too tight, the flow of blood around the head becomes restricted, leading once again to headaches and eyestrain.

The basic cause of a tension headache is the contraction of muscles over the scalp, forehead, back of head, upper part of neck and around the jaw. Indian head massage works all of these areas. The combination of techniques applied across the tender, ropy muscles in the neck and across the base of the skull, and the gentler movements to the face, can ease tension, removing fibrous knots and nodules and easing pain.
